WHISPER

WHISPER
Mark Batterson
Multnomah Books
Mark Batterson is the Pastor of National Community Church in Washington, DC. He has authored over a dozen books (CIRCLE MAKER, CHASE THE LION & IN A PIT WITH A LION ON A SNOWY DAY). In his most recent book WHISPER he takes on the topic of hearing and recognizing God's voice. Many of of us have no problem believing that God spoke in the past, but some have difficulty in believing or understanding that God still speaks today. I personally believe God still speaks today, but often I have a difficult time discerning and hearing his voice. I have allowed too many distractions into my life. Realizing my need to listen and hear His voice is why I really enjoyed WHISPER.
Batterson breaks down WHISPER into two parts. Part one is titled "The Power of A Whisper" and part two is titled "The Seven Love Languages". These love language include Scripture, desires, doors, dreams, people, prompting and pain and help us to better hear and discern his voice. Each of these love languages of God are to show his children how much He wants to commune and fellowship with us. Some of the languages in which God speaks are encouraging (scripture & desire), and some are harder to discern (dreams & prompting) and one is just a hard pill to swallow (pain). But overall, the most important point of this book is that God does still speak to us today, we just need to listen more attentively.
Personally I think WHISPER is a basic and simple look at how one can go about hearing the voice of God. Mark's use of numerous real-life examples to drive home his points. I don't know if I found anything earth shattering, but it certainly spoke to my heart and stirred the desire in me to hear and seek God's voice in my life.
